Spring

Filed under: Uncategorized @ 5:05 PM and

Spring has sprung! the trees are popping leaves and the weather is warming up. Students are coming with shorts and no coats. Just a gentle reminder that shorts must be longer than your students’ finger tips when they hang down at their sides, and tank tops need to have a two finger width on the straps.

As we near the end of the year, there are going to be some fun activities and due to the lack of a playground, some activities that the sixth grade has done in the past, but cannot this year. There will be no sixth grade vs. the staff softball game this year. So sorry, but we will set off the hot air balloons and shoot trebuchet eggs casings on the playground. We will be visiting the EMP on June 19 (that is the last full week of school). If you would like to join us, we will be needing chaperones.

On the academic level, the students are studying the life unit in science, Greece in social studies, are currently in literature circles reading different books, and are writing a fiction story in writing.

This week Lauren, my student teacher, is taking the class over.  She greet the students in the morning and teaches science, reading, and math.  Next week she will be taking over parts of writing and social studies.  The students seem to like and respect her.  She will be with us until June 9.  We will slowly transition back to me teaching full time a couple weeks before then.

Have a great end to your week.

I am very excited about our field trip to the SAM.  We will be viewing the Gauguin exhibit.  It is very exciting to go and see such an accomplished artist. Starting next week, our class will have a weekly update that is written by one of the students .  So keep posted.

Website Update and Student Teacher Introduction

Filed under: Uncategorized @ 5:23 PM and

I hope you all survived the winter snow storm we had last week! Before I go into an introduction of myself, I just wanted to let you know of a recent blog update. To the right you’ll find a link to Latin/Greek roots page. Each week students study a Latin or Greek root and as a class we generate a vocabulary word list from this root. On this page you’ll find the week’s vocabulary word list and definitions. Students did not get the chance to finish writing down all of the definitions in class, so students can use this list to finish filling out their worksheet and use to study. The vocabulary test will be on Friday.

Hi! My name is Ms. Dolby and I will be in Mrs. Cheatum’s classroom for the rest of the year as a student teacher! I am a student from Seattle Pacific University in the Elementary Education Certification program. Currently I am in the classroom Wednesday-Friday and starting mid-March I’ll be in the classroom everday. I am really excited to get to know your child and work with them in the coming months. I also look foward to meeting many of you during conferences next week!

Happy New Year

Filed under: Uncategorized @ 5:16 PM and

Hope everyone had a great break.  Mine was short but filled with family members
coming in and out.  My niece from  Colorado came for most of the break and it was interesting to have a teenager in the house again.  Both my children
were home which made the season a lot of fun.

Now we are back into the swing of school homework is starting up again and projects.  Finn Hill Jr. High school will be starting their registration process next
week.  We start by going on a field trip to visit the new campus and then on Thursday the counselors come to talk to the sixth and fifth grades about registration.
Each child will be given a registration form to fill out.  There will be an open house at Finn Hill for parents on January 19th at 6:00 PM.  You can have questions about registration answered there.  My advice for students applying for alternative schools like EAS,  North Star, or International is to go ahead and registrar at Finn Hill.  This way the student has a higher probability of getting the classes (electives) that they want in case they don’t get into the alternative school.  It is easier to pull a registration than to apply late.

Hello Parents,

Here we are in December and we leave for Outdoor Ed next week.  As always this seems like it came very fast.  Class is going well and we are very excited about going up to Canada.  We have been talking to the students all week and I can feel the excitement in the room.

You will notice a change on my over all look and  ”homework” page.  Although I loved the dog scene, it didn’t work for my homework page.  I also reformated that page in hope to make it clearer.  Check it out and let me know.

See you all bright and early Monday morning.

Homework Assignements

Filed under: Uncategorized @ 4:43 PM and

I have created a homework calendar on the “Homework” page that tells when assignements are due.   If the assignement appears in blue with an underline, that means that the worksheet is attached.  All you have to do is click the blue underlined section and the worksheet will appear in PDF form.

Today I also sent home “Missing Work” reports.  If your student forgot it, you can always go onto the Skyward system and log in.  You have access to all the grades and missing work.  Currenlty the Skyward system is up-to-date.

Have a safe weekend.

Hello Parents

Filed under: Uncategorized @ 3:54 PM and

Hello Parents,

I am still refining the web site.  I changed the homework assignments to it’s own page in a calendar form.  This way I can attach papers that your students may have left at school.  I will not copy assignment pages that are in booklets.  Your student must be responsible for those.  I will try to update this page daily so that you are informed as to the homework.  This is where your student will get assignments when they are absent.  I will not send work home ahead of time.

I have created a page for Outdoor Ed.  I will post information on this page as well forms that you might need.

I would love your feedback on this new format.

Betsy
